Fitness Series #1: Running ~ My Top Tips to Run like a champ!

I decided to start doing a "Fitness Series" of posts dedicated to my Health and Fitness regime. Being fit and healthy is something that is  important to me, and I always do my best to stay active and eat (relatively!) healthy.  I've also gotten a few questions from readers about these things, so over the next few weeks/months, I'll be doing some different features on supplements, exercise equipment and routines, and so on!

So, to get things started, Im going to talk about  my number 1 method of staying fit and healthy ~ Running! I know some people absolutely hate it, but I think that once you get into it, its an amazing hobby. Its simple, its free, and you can do it anywhere. I have been very busy/lazy lately and haven't been running as much as I should be, but I'm determined to get back to doing it at least 2/3 times a week.

Before: Shiny new Runners. After: Mucky dirty Runners!

So, Here are my Top Tips for Running like a Champ:

1. Start off Slowly: This is Key to your success. The last thing you want to do is attempt a 5k run without any prior experience, as it will kick your ass, (you will be in bits for a week) and you risk losing all motivation to run all. Start with small runs, with small breaks of fast-walking every 5 minutes or so. This will ease you into it, and you will notice your improvement (ie needing to walk less) and that will encourage you to keep going, and keep improving.

2.Strrrrretch!: Before and after every run. Your body will thank you for stretching, its that simple. If you don't know the stretches, google 'em ~ they're easy!

3. Music:  Good tunes are the best running partner you could ask for, as they push you to keep going, and they keep you entertained. Get your playlist down before you head out the door though, and choose your songs wisely. No one wants to be in the middle of a good sprint only to have Radiohead come on and wreck your buzz. Whether you prefer electro, hip-hop, or Dubstep, just make sure its upbeat and keeps you motivated. I personally prefer gritty hip-hop from the likes of A$AP & Kendrick Lamar, but I'm also very partial to Beyonce and Rihanna, but only their up-tempo stuff!

4:Hydrate: Drink before you run, and after. Just don't drink too much right before, as running on a belly full of liquid is not pleasant, you'll feel all slooshy and gross.

5. Shoes:  Getting your footwear right is really important, and there are a multitude of good running shoes on the market. I have just started using these Nike Dual Fusion ones (as pictured) which are from XLS Medical and I absolutely love them, and would highly recommend.

6: Motivation: This is the trickiest part, I struggle with it all the time! The best thing I have come across is the book "Run Fat Bitch, Run" ~ a hilarious and well-written book that breaks down all aspects of Running in a lighthearted and "no-nonsense" manner.

Ultimately, everyone has their own methods of motivation in regards to fitness, and I recommend just going with whatever works for you. I try to keep my attitude as positive as possible, I don't do guilt-trips, and I don't dwell on yesterday. Im certainly not a star-pupil when it comes to keeping fit, but I'm proud of what I've done, and excited for what I will continue to do, and I really hope these little tips will help some of you to get out there and go for your first run!

Hope you enjoyed this post, I'd love to hear you're feedback on it!
Are there any other "Fitness Series" posts that you would like to see?
