2013 ~ Year in Review

Since I started this little blog of mine over three years ago now, I have written a "Year in Review" post every year, where I look back at the past 12 months, and all they have given me. (You can read my past Year in Review posts here and here.) I feel like I say this every year, but this year in particular has been so exciting, and I am so grateful for all the opportunities that have come my way. Here's a look at some of my highlights from 2013:

Moving to Dublin.
Back in May, I decided to up-sticks and move to the big smoke, (a.k.a Dublin City!) to further pursue my dreams of working in Fashion and Broadcasting. Moving to a new city is always difficult, and I found that leaving my friends and family to be the particularly painful, but I was determined to make it work. I transferred to Eason in Dundrum to keep myself financially independent, and I moved into a beautiful little apartment just outside the city centre. It wasn't easy at first, but thankfully so many good things started happening for me once I got there. Which leads me onto my next highlight...

Interning with Fashion One Tv.
As soon as I moved to Dublin, I started interning with the international Fashion Channel, Fashion One Tv, as one of their Irish content providers. I did a mix of presenting and production work for the channel, which included covering various fashion events, such as the Irish Fashion Innovation awards, and many different press events. I spent the summer interning for the channel, and I can honestly say that I learned SO much about the world of broadcasting, as well as gaining more valuable presenting experience. Despite the hard work, (I was doing this on as well as working in Easons) I loved every minute of it! You can read some of my Internship Diaries here and here. Just as I finished my internship with Fashion One Tv, another opportunity came a-knocking, one which ended up being a huge highlight of 2013...

Working full-time as a Stylist.
I have to admit , when I first started working full-time with iClothing as their Lead Stylist, I was a bit apprehensive, as I had never worked as a professional stylist before! My role as Lead Stylist for iClothing includes working on many different fashion-related projects for the company, such as styling and organising photo-shoots, trend forecasting, and prepping for various Tv slots as well as some social media management, and a few other odds and ends. It was difficult juggling so many different tasks at first, but I can happily say that after working for the company for nearly 3 months now, I have really found my feet, and I am absolutely loving the work that I'm doing. I have an amazing team around me, and together we have some great projects lined up for 2014, so watch this space!

Working with TV3's Xpose as their Fashion Shop Columnist and Stylist.
Over the past few weeks, I have been working alongside the lovely people at TV3 on some really exciting projects, one of which being an online column which I have recently started writing for Xposé.ie called The Stylist Diaries, in which I offer style advice to readers, and give them an inside look into the life of a stylist. I have always dreamed of having my own column, and getting the chance to do that for a brand like Xposé is a dream come true indeed! I have another really exciting project in the works with Xposé which I cannot wait to reveal to you all, but you will have to wait until the new year for more details on that. For now you can check out my first few columns for Xposé here and here.

Press Features and Blogger Award Nominations.

When I first started this blog, I never imagined the feedback and support I would receive throughout the years, and it still never ceases to amaze me just how wonderful my readers (thats YOU guys) can be. From being featured in some of Irelands biggest publications, to getting nominated for not one but two Irish blog awards, you incredible people continue to show your love and support, and for that I will always be SO grateful. My favourite thing about blogging will always be the people I meet, whether it is fellow bloggers who inspire me, or readers who humble me with their kind words and messages of encouragement. I'm always available for an email or a message, even a passing hello on the street, so don't be a stranger guys, I love hearing from you. After all, my blog (my life even) would not be what it is today without you, and I only hope I can keep you coming back again and again.

2014.

Overall, 2013 has had its fair share of struggles, and there was a lot of blood, sweat, and even a few tears put into the past 12 months, but I'm proud of the work that I have done so far, and I am feeling very positive about the future. I have so many plans, wishes and goals that I want to realise in 2014, for my blog, my career, and in my personal life. In the end, I have to accept that I have no idea what 2014 will hold, none of us do, but I plan to work hard and stay focused, and enjoy every minute of this journey.

Wishing you all a happy, healthy and prosperous 2014, and thank you again for sharing this journey with me.

Big love to you all!

Peace,
WildChild

eBay Bargain Picks #4: Autumn/Winter Boots

1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7

Im sure you're all somewhat aware by now that chunky boots are big news for Autumn/Winter, and it looks like the clunkier, the better! The phrase "Man Repeller" has been used to describe this type of shoe, and it's one trend that I will definitely be jumping on board with. Now I'm no stranger to my quirky ankle boots (see here, here and here) however, this years desirables are significantly lower and more mannish looking, which to me means more comfortable, which means HUZZAH!

I also know that I'm a bit quick on the draw in showing you A/W boots when we're still sweating away here in August, but I figured that since most of these items will take at least two, maybe three weeks to ship, that anyone who orders will get them just in time! I hope you guys enjoy this special boot-theemed eBay post, I think I might organise them like this from now on, it makes more sense to group them into themes. I have been getting a wonderful response from you all towards these posts, (read my recent ones here and here) and I'm delighted you like them so much! Please let me know if there is any particular trend or item you would like me to hunt down on eBay, and I will happily put my trawling skills to good use.

Disclaimer: As with all my eBay bargain posts, please read my beginners guide if you have never shopped on eBay before, so you will know what to expect. Also, be sure to read the descriptions of any item you wish to buy. Considering the cheapness of some of these boots, please don't expect them to be genuine leather, as I am sure most of them are not, and like many highstreet shops, they are probably made from artificial leather.

Ps: Did you see that I've given my blog a little facelift? I've been getting some help from a lovely blogger Hannah whom I met at the Blog Awards last week, and together we've in the process of giving WildChild Stories a whole new look! I'd love to know what you all think of it.

Peace,
WildChild,
x
